About the MMC

The McMaster Medical Compendium (MMC) is a studying and information reference tool created with medical students in mind. Its purpose is to provide students with a structured introduction to a great variety of diseases and therapeutics that are likely to be encountered in clerkship, residency, fellowship, and practice.

As a student-led initiative, this project has a strong focus on collaboration and mentorship. The content is researched and written by students, as well as reviewed by local doctors.

Hence, the MMC’s goals are two-fold:

1.   Foster and facilitate self-directed learning

By introducing high-yield content through a structured and thorough format, the MMC can act as a starting point for medical students learning about a new topic. Furthermore, as contributing students research and write the articles, this is an opportunity to further engage with the medical literature.

2.   Encourage student collaboration and mentorship

Through the content creation process, the editor-author interaction holds the value of mentorship at its core. Through the MMC, more experienced medical students are able to guide and advise new medical students through important and clinically-relevant learning.

This work is materialized as a published serial, known hence as the McMaster Medical Compendium (MMC), in both physical print and digital access.
